How to provision a self-hosted gateway in Azure API Management as a Docker Container
Azure API Management definition
API Management (APIM) allows you to create a consistent API gateway for your backend services. APIM allows you to expose your APIs and make them available to external and internal developers.
API management enables you to successfully deploy, promote, operate, measure, and continuously improve your APIs. API management can be applied to a variety of service APIs.
APIM components
Azure API Management (APIM) is a fully managed service provided by Microsoft Azure to assist organizations in publishing, securing, transforming, maintaining, and monitoring APIs. Azure API Management offers a range of features for API management and offers a set of components to ensure a comprehensive solution.
Azure API Management is composed of three logical components
- Developer portal: This is an auto-generated, customizable site that allows API developers to discover APIs, understand their functionality, and test them directly. It also facilitates the registration of developers and provides analytics on their activity.
- API Gateway: This is the runtime component that processes the API requests and responses. It plays a role in routing, caching, response transformation, authentication and authorization, and request and response validation.
